'Staying Put' Legislation and What it Means
After years of campaigning, the implementation of the ‘Staying Put’ legislation means young people are no longer forced to leave their homes at the age of 18.
How successful has Staying Put been since it came into effect?
A year ago the Staying Put legislation came into force and changed things for thousands of young people in foster care throughout the UK. Young people are no longer required to leave their foster homes on their 18th birthday although challenges still remain.

Based on research and findings from organisations that originally contributed to the 'TACT Language That Cares Report', the Polaris Community has conducted a consultation to ascertain the feelings and suggestions of our young people on the subject and the words they commonly hear.

Exploring Remembrance
The school explored remembrance through lessons and an assembly. They discussed who we remember and why, how it is still relevant today.
Equine Lessons
A group of children from the school enjoyed the therapeutic benefit of spending time at the stables with the horses (and the stable cat!).
Visiting Fishbourne Palace
Students finally managed to visit Fishbourne Palace and had the opportunity to view the original Roman mosaics and a variety of other artefacts.

Students visited Pashley Manor Gardens, drawing a number of sketches and taking photographs as research for their art projects.
"Relation-shops" workshops at ISP School
Ran by a former Police Officer, these workshops give young students the chance to discuss community safety issues that can make an impact early in the development of young people.
Speaking & Listening Skills: "The Apprentice" Style Chocolate Project
Term 3 saw children focusing on Speaking & Listening skills along with persuasive writing skills. This was done through the form of an ‘apprentice style’ chocolate project.
Coronation Party
As part of the Citizenship curriculum, ISP School Battle held a Coronation Party!
The Secret Garden
Term 6 saw children studying the text of The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett first published in book form in 1911.
Language and Literature
Students in KS3 and KS4 have been studying some differing text over Term 6, using visual representations to help them develop empathy and emotional literacy skills.
Narrative Writing Skills
Term 5 saw KS4 children working on a scheme of work around narrative writing skills to compliment skills required for GCSE Paper 1.
A Grand Tour of Europe
At the start of Term 6, children undertook their own Grand Tour of Europe, following in the footsteps of residents past.

During term 5, children in the nurture group became wild animals!
Remembrance Day
This year, Remembrance at Battle was very pertinent to children and adults at Glengorse.
Christmas Tree Farm visit
Children visited Catsfield Christmas Tree farm where they were lucky to have a talk about the history of the farm by the owner Clive.

ISP School Battle have adopted a tropical community fish tank from a kind member of the public.
Spooky Carving
As part of our Key Stage 3 landbased lessons, children enjoyed choosing their own pumpkins to carve to their own designs.

Children studied graffiti art as a form of self identity which has enabled our children to show freedom of expression in a contained way.
