Fostering in Walsall

Interested in fostering in Walsall?

There are currently more than 600 children and young people living in foster care in Walsall, and more foster carers are urgently needed to provide safe, stable homes.

Across Walsall and the West Midlands, the greatest need is often for carers who can support older children, sibling groups, or young people who have experienced trauma. While many people initially enquire about fostering babies, children of all ages need the right support to thrive.

At ISP, we’ve been supporting foster carers for over 30 years and were the first independent fostering agency in the UK to introduce therapeutic fostering. We specialise in helping carers support children who have experienced trauma, giving you the skills and support to succeed.

Whether you’re new to fostering or looking to transfer, you’ll receive specialist training and 24/7 support from our experienced team.

Becoming a foster carer in Walsall

Becoming a foster carer is a rewarding journey. You’ll provide a safe, stable home where a child can rebuild trust and move forward positively. Our fostering assessment typically takes around 4–6 months, and we always work at a pace that’s right for you.

If you’re already an approved foster carer, transferring to ISP could give you access to a more therapeutic, supportive approach.

You’ll be supported by a team of specialists across fostering, therapy, and education. We aim to fast-track transfer assessments and typically complete them within 12 weeks, ensuring a smooth transition for both you and the children in your care.

You are required to have a spare bedroom that’s always available to a foster child. The spare room cannot be shared, and must be big enough to fit a single bed, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers.

To be approved as a foster carer in the UK, you must be a British citizen or have the legal right to remain in the UK without restrictions that would prevent fostering.

The following questions are intended to help us understand your experience with children. Please note that prior experience is not required to become a foster carer, as full training will be provided.
