A teenage girl who has spent the last 11 years in the Foster Care system has been nominated for a national award following the death of her 23 year old Uncle who had Cystic Fibrosis.

Aimee has been praised for her strength and the support she offered to her family. She sang at her Uncle’s wedding two weeks before he died and was a tower of strength, supporting her two younger brothers throughout the funeral. She has since channelled her grief into raising awareness of Cystic Fybrosis in her local community and fundraising money for CF charities.

Aimee’s foster carer, Jane-Ann Rogers, nominated her in the Outstanding Achievement category at the Fostering Excellence Awards, which will take place in London on Wednesday 23rd October, 2019.

Jane-Ann told us:

‘Aimee has coped extremely well with her grief; she has handled it with maturity and courage. She has been living with us for two years and I have never seen her so passionate and determined like she is with the fundraising. She is now organising a quiz night and a music evening and it has been wonderful to watch her grow in confidence.’

Aimee has also been studying for her GCSE’s alongside her fundraising efforts and so far, she has raised over £500 for Cystic Fybrosis charities.

Emma Hannett, Registered Manager with ISP Hampshire and Dorset told us:

‘Aimee is an incredible example of how children and teenagers can flourish with the right support.  She has taken an awful situation and turned it into something to be proud of with the support of her fantastic foster family.  We’ll be fully supporting her Outstanding Achievement nomination at the Fostering Excellence Awards.’
