Our very own Andrew Fox will be running a workshop at the IFCO Conference this Saturday 3rd September. He will be presenting with Andrea Warman, author of ‘Caring with Vitality‘, a book about how yoga can help foster carers and their families.
Dr Andrea Warman is children and families, social worker, with a PhD in Social Anthropology. She spent 6 years as Fostering Research and Development Consultant for BAAF, and took a particular interest in the role food plays in good fostering practice. She published several books in the UK and internationally with carer’s strategies and ideas, including Recipes for Fostering (2008), which was well-received in the social care community and beyond.
She is now an independent consultant and most recently has become interested in how we support carers with the emotional demands of their role. Liz Lark, an acclaimed yoga practitioner, introduced yoga, meditation and other mind/body techniques to a group of ISP carers at Andrew Fox’s Centre in Teynham, Kent. This approach worked well and the material was used in Caring with Vitality, published by JKP in March of this year.
In their workshop this weekend, Andrew and Andrea will discuss why these techniques are needed, how they were introduced – and importantly the difference that can be made for carers and the children and young people they look after.
