We are thrilled to share that our incredible team at ISP Teynham have been awarded their second consecutive ‘Outstanding’ in their latest Ofsted inspection.
ISP Teynham were commended on placement stability and keeping children and young people with foster families long term and creating an environment which allows ‘everyone to thrive and develop’ as well as supporting teenagers’ transition to adulthood and independence.
The Ofsted report said: “As children head towards adulthood, they know that they can continue living with their foster carers under ‘staying put’ arrangements if they wish. This gives children a choice about their future and the knowledge and confidence that carers will continue to support them.
“Carers maintain contact with children and often support them long after they have left the foster home, due to the positive relationships that they develop.”
A whole team effort
The leadership and management of the agency was rated as outstanding in its own right, with the report stating: “The manager has excellent oversight of the agency and knows the children and foster carers well. Staff value the manager’s knowledge and feel supported and have full confidence in her decision-making.”
Alison Capp has been registered manager at ISP Teynham since September 2024, but has been within the organisation since 2018, she said: “At ISP we believe in a therapeutic approach, which means we provide bespoke care, tailored to our children and young people’s needs through an incredible team of professionals, from foster parents to therapists to education specialists to social workers.
“Our foster parents are amazing people who work hard every day to transform the lives of children who have been through more than most of us could ever imagine, so this report is testament to them, their resilience and their dedication to make a lasting impact and help children overcome their pasts.
“Providing outstanding care to children and young people is a whole team effort and I’m so proud of our team and foster parents.”
Children at the centre
Ofsted added: “Foster parents are resilient and hold children at the centre of all they do. They understand children’s behaviours and how they relate to the trauma they have experienced in their lives. They allow children to express themselves through behaviour and help them manage difficult emotions. Consequently, children feel safe, allowing them to build on their resilience.”
Feedback from foster parents at ISP included: “Our fostering advisor advocates for both me and the children. I hope I get to work with her for many years to come,” and “We are lucky to have a great supportive staff team; I don’t think we would be able to do the work without them.”
We are immensely proud of this result, which is a testament to the outstanding work every single person within our community at ISP contributes towards making children’s lives better.
