Tracy and her partner, Craig, started their fostering journey in Summer 2016. Tracy was a childminder at the time and although she felt it had some great rewards, she was longing to do more.
When two close family members of Craig were taken into care, the couple wanted to help other children in care flourish too. So, they decided to apply to foster.
Tracy said, “When my partner’s niece and nephew went into the care system, I saw the difference in them and how far they had come. We thought we could make a difference to a child’s life too, so we applied.”
In May 2017, the couple received the amazing news they’d been waiting for – they had been approved after attending panel and were now ISP foster carers.
Soon after approval, the couple welcomed a 12 year old girl into their home, who today is very settled with the family. Talking about her transformation, Tracy said, “She’s so happy and content and is reaching all the milestones that she’s aiming for. We’re so proud of her!’.
“I’m also proud of what we’ve achieved as carers, in such little time. We’ve received so much praise from ISP for all the work we’ve put in to make sure she’s settled.”
Tracy says the most rewarding part of their fostering journey has been, “to see the difference that we have made to a child is overwhelming”.
And with three of their own children to bring up as well, we think they’re doing an amazing job.
It’s estimated that fostering services need to recruit a further 5,900 foster families in the UK, over the next 12 months.
